Skin-Tags Oh My!

Don't ya hate those dreadful skin tags?

They don't really bother me and are completely harmless.

Nevertheless, you can get rid of them!

From personal experience. A dear family member of mine has some and they want to get rid of them. We found a great way to get rid of them. And no, clipping with fingernail clippers is not the solution. Ouch!

Nail Polish! Just dab a very little amount on the skin tag. Top, and sides, but not your skin. Check the skin tag to make sure there is always some nail polish on it. Let nature do the rest. the nail polish suffocates the skin tag, causing it to die, turn black and fall off! It's amazing and almost pain free! Small skin tags fall off within three days. And larger ones can take up to three weeks or more. It's worth the time though. Especially when a bottle of nail polish is less than 99c. Who wants to painfully freeze them off when you can do this?

Skin may become slightly red or irritated around skin tag. But do not worry.
Skin tag may get larger. Which is normal because the skin tag is just coming out of your skin. It is even possible for the skin tag to double in size.

So happy skin tag killing. Please comment and post your results with skin tags!

Prunella vulgaris/ Heal All/ Self Heal

August's Featured Alternative- HARVESTING!
Prunella Vulgarius - Heal All
This beautiful flowering herb is not called heal all for no reason. It's mouth shaped flowers, rough-like little hairs and long tops is something that every home should have.To buy such a thing would cost you more than $60 on Amazon.

So why waste your money when (from my experience) grows from Ohio all the way across through to the panhandle in northern Idaho.

They are ready for picking as soon as a flower has bloomed on it. Here are some pictures of my harvesting last month.

Prunella Vulgaris, grown in sunny, wet, dry, and shady conditions. Along trails, besides rivers, etc. this can be found everywhere. Grows to about 1-2ft tall. Purple Flowers. This particular site where I harvested in along side trail to the scenic Kootenai river, in North Western Montana.

Scenic Kootenai River, Montana

I harvested about a pound Prunella Vulgaris. I must admit, I was very surprised to see such large tops! Some larger than the size of my pinky finger. I have never seen them so big. It must be the Montana air or something because in Ohio they were small.
The largest one I picked was almost the size of my index finger!

What is Prunella Vulgaris used for? Stay tuned for more! Until next time. Thanks for reading!

The Health Benefits of Teas

By Alyse Levine

Concept
The media has exhaustively publicized the numerous ways drinking tea is good for you: from fighting certain
cancers, to decreasing the risk of heart disease and Alzheimer's disease, to controlling cholesterol and even reducing tooth decay! Although most people are aware of tea's health benefits, they are not aware of which teas are the most beneficial. So, from a health perspective, are all teas created equal?

Nutritional Facts and Figures
What are the purported health benefits of consuming tea?

Before we begin, note that here we are talking about tea from the tea plant, Camellia sinensis, and not
herbal teas, which are really derived from the flowers, leaves, seeds, bark, or roots of certain plants but contain no actual “real” tea (herbal teas do have purported health benefits, but they are beyond the scope of this bite).
Studies have shown that tea may promote good health in the following ways:

*Heart Health: The
polyphenols (antioxidants) found in tea are very effective in preventing cholesterol from oxidizing and damaging blood vessels. Green tea has been shown to improve the health of the delicate cells lining the blood vessels, which helps lower one's risk of heart disease (1).

*Cancer Prevention: The polyphenols (catechins in particular) in tea may help prevent or decrease the growth and spread of certain cancers. They scavenge oxidants before cell injuries occur, reduce the incidence and size of chemically induced tumors, and inhibit the growth of tumor cells. In studies of liver, skin, and stomach cancer, chemically induced tumors were shown to decrease in size in mice that were fed green and black tea (2,3).

*Skin Protector: Not only has tea been shown to be effective in decreasing cancer risk when consumed orally, but it may also be beneficial when applied superficially to the skin (4). Some research has shown that when green tea is applied to sunburned skin it decreases the development of cancerous skin tumors. This evidence has led many cosmetics companies to start adding green tea to their skin care products.

*Alzheimer's Disease Arsenal: Both green and black teas have been shown to hinder the activity of two enzymes in the brain associated with Alzheimer's disease. Although tea consumption cannot cure Alzheimer's, it may be another part of the puzzle in treating or slowing down the development of the disease (5).

*Good for Teeth: Compounds in tea protect teeth by increasing the acid resistance of tooth enamel and acting as antibiotics that kill off dangerous, decay-promoting bacteria (6). Tea also contains fluoride, which is essential for keeping teeth strong and healthy.

Which tea varieties provide the above health benefits?

All "real" teas, which include green, black, and oolong tea varieties, are beneficial to your health. As mentioned above, these teas are all derived from the same tea plant, Camellia sinensis, and contain numerous healthful compounds including polyphenols (particularly catechins), tocopherol, vitamin C, as well as other antioxidants. The polyphenols are believed to be responsible for most of tea's role in promoting good health. Although black, green and oolong teas have different polyphenol compositions due to processing differences, they all have been shown to provide the above health benefits.

The differences between the teas are depicted below. As you can see, the main difference between the "real" teas is simply in how the leaves are processed.

Green Teas (Japanese, Chinese, Gunpowder, etc...)
Green teas are the freshest and least processed because they are not at all fermented. Of all "real" teas, green tea has the lightest and most subtle taste.

Black Teas (Darjeeling, Earl Grey, China Black, Jasmine, etc...)
Black tea is simply green tea that has been fermented for around 6 hours. Fermentation turns the green leaves black and alters the polyphenol content, though it is still very high in antioxidants. Black teas have the strongest taste.

Oolong Teas
These teas are made from green teas that are briefly fermented. Therefore, they are a compromise between black and green tea in both taste and color.

To Get the Most Out of Tea:
*To get the benefits claimed above, opt for a "real" tea variety (green, black, or oolong), as opposed to an herbal tea
*Steep tea for about 3 minutes; this time allotment enables the health promoting compounds to be released; steeping for much longer turns the tea bitter and releases too much tannin, which can irritate the digestive tract, cause constipation, and decrease iron absorption.
*Hot or Cold? Go for what you like! Bottled teas, iced tea, and teas made from mixes are also all rich in polyphenols. However, keep iced tea fresh, the polyphenol content starts to deteriorate after a few days.

Note on Caffeine:
If you are worried about the
caffeine content of tea, opt for the decaffeinated varieties...they provide the same health benefits without keeping you up all night.

Alyse's Advice
The next time you reach for a warm, soothing cup of tea, opt for either green, black or oolong varieties, and steep for about 3 minutes. If you prefer the iced kind, follow the same guidelines but make sure to finish it within a few days before the antioxidant content starts to decline. A few cups of tea a day may help keep the heart doctor and dentist away, as well as cancer and Alzheimer's disease at bay.

25 ways to clean with vinegar

25 ways to clean with vinegar

by Emily Hsieh

The cleaning aisle at just about any grocery store is stocked with a dizzying array of options—and when it comes down to it, there are a lot of expensive, toxic, superfluous products crowding the market. Chances are, you already have one of the best, all-purpose cleaning agents in your pantry: white vinegar. Vinegar actually works as a great laundry booster, stripping away the chemical build-up that detergent leaves behind (and gets rid of clingy odors in the process). And beyond that, there are tons of other applications for the stuff around your home. Here, from vinegartips.com and frugalfun.com, 25 ideas for making the most of vinegar:
1. Deodorize the sink: Pour 1 cup baking soda, followed by 1 cup hot vinegar, down the drain. Let sit for at least 5 minutes, then rinse with hot water.
2. Deodorize the garbage disposal: Make ice cubes out of vinegar. Run the disposal with a few vinegar ice cubes and cold water.
3. Clean countertops: Wipe down surfaces with a rag dipped in vinegar.
4. Clean the fridge: Use a mixture of half water, half vinegar to wipe down the interior shelves and walls.
5. Remove soap build-up and odors from the dishwasher: Once a month, pour 1 cup of vinegar into an empty dishwasher and run the machine through its entire cycle.
6. Bust oven grease: If you’ve got grease spots on the oven door, pour some vinegar directly on the stains, let it sit for 15 minutes, and wipe away with a sponge.
7. To make old glassware sparkle: To get rid of the cloudy effect, wrap a vinegar-soaked towel around the glass and let it sit. Remove and rinse with hot water.
8. Get rid of lime deposits on your tea kettle: Fill the kettle with vinegar and let it bowl. Allow it to cool, and rinse with water.
9. Remove stains in coffee cups: Create a paste using of equal parts vinegar and salt (or in lieu of salt, baking soda) and scrub gently before rinsing.
10. Treat Tupperware stains (and stinkiness): Wipe the containers with a vinegar-saturated cloth.
11. Remove stains on aluminum pots: Boil 1 cup vinegar and 1 cup water.
12. Deter ant infestations: Spray outside doorways and windowsills, and anywhere you see a trail of critters.
13. Clean can openers: Scrub the wheel of your can opener with vinegar using an old toothbrush.
14. Remove stickers or labels: Cover the sticker with a vinegar-soaked cloth. Let it sit overnight—it should slide right off by morning.
15. Shine porcelain sinks: A bit of vinegar and a good scrub should leave them sparkling.
16. Clean grout: Pour on some vinegar, let it hang out for a few minutes, and buff with an old toothbrush.
17. Clean the shower door: Spray them down with vinegar pre-shower, or post (after you’ve squeegeed the glass) to remove hard water deposits.
18. Clean a grimy showerhead: To get rid of scum, fill a Ziploc with ½ a cup of baking soda and 1 cup vinegar and tie it around the showerhead. Let it sit for an hour, until the bubbling has stopped. Remove the bag and run  the shower.
19. Make a toilet sparkle: Pour in a cup or two of vinegar and let it sit there overnight before scrubbing with a toilet brush.
20. Polish linoleum floors: Add 1 cup of vinegar for every gallon of water you use to wash the floor.
21. Clean paintbrushes: Soak paintbrushes for an hour before simmering them on the stove to remove hardened paint. Drain and rinse.
22. Clean grills: Spray vinegar on a ball of tin foil, then use it to give the grate a firm scrub.
23. Disinfect wood cutting boards: Wipe down wood boards with a wash of vinegar.
24. Clean the microwave: Fill a microwave-safe bowl with 2 cups water and ½ cup vinegar. Heat it on full power for 3-4 minutes until it comes to a boil. Keep the door closed for a few minutes longer to let the steam fill the microwave, loosening the grime. Remove the bowl (carefully!) and wipe down interior walls with a sponge.
25. Polish patent leather accessories: Give them a rub with a vinegar-soaked cloth. Buff with a dry cloth.

Ask The Herbalist: How do I fix my dogs ears I don't know whats wrong?

"We took him to the vet and they gave us cream and antibiotics and they didnt seam to help. We cant afford to take him to the vet at this time. We tried alot of over the counter earmite stuff but nothing seems to work. Sometimes hes in so much pain he cant sit still i try to clean his ears with q-tips black scab like stuff comes out"

Your dog has ear mites! When dogs have ear mites the ears produce wax, the blackness is the bloody scabs from scratching. We brought a stray cat into the house about 3 weeks ago. Our Shih-Tzu got them in less than 24hours! Squirt an eye dropper full of mineral oil into each ear. Wait about 5 minutes. This will loosen the scabs. Take a cotton ball and wipe out and a q-tip is needed. do not use hydrogen peroxide. Keep your dog's ears dry! Any substance with water will just feed the mites to grow. The mineral oil suffocates the ear mites. Do this for 3 days on the 4th day take a break. Then continue again for 3 more days, take a break on the 4th day. Continue this until the ear wax stops building up in the ear until the inflammation goes away. The mites weren't so bad in our dogs ear because we caught it as soon as it happened. Her ear mites were gone in a week. But the life cycle of the mites is 6 weeks. You may need to do the treatment that long

Vaccume a little extra and wash where your dog sleeps.

If you have cats you must do this same to the cats.

As the Herbalist: What should you do when a dog is having a heart attack?

Getting to a vet before it is too late is almost impossible if you dog is in the middle of a heart attack.

Anything can be harmful if not given in proper amounts... however, Cayenne Pepper is actually beneficial to dogs when administered properly.

Cayenne Pepper:

Perhaps the greatest natural stimulant known, Cayenne has been called the single greatest "driver" of other herbs. No other herb is quite in this class making it a must for all formulas. Simply said, when you need to get an herb to any location in the body cayenne reins supreme. The uses of cayenne are so numerous that it has been claimed "the single greatest herb." Some of the common uses are anal problems (to include hemorrhoids), heart attack, toothache, external bleeding, diphtheria, all sorts of eye conditions, wounds of all types, clearing the mucous membranes etc.

------------------------

To humans, cayenne has been used to stop a heart attack in less than 30 seconds!!!

DOG HEART ATTACK SYMPTOMS
Heart attacks occur in dogs for much the same reasons as they do in human beings. Old age, obesity and diabetic conditions are contributory factors but heart attacks can strike due to many other medical conditions.

When Dogs have a Heartattack the animal experiences pain in his fore limbs and shows it by stretching his arms. The dog also tries to crane and stretch his neck sideways. Dog Heart Symptoms to look out for are apparent difficulties in breathing, sweating and signs of unconsciousness like drowsy eyes. The moment these Dog Heart Attack Symptoms are noticed it may be prudent to remove any leash on the dog and try and talk to the dog out of his uneasiness with the aim of making him more receptive to instructions. This also helps should the dog be slipping into a comatose condition. No water or other liquids should be administered to the dog in this condition. In inclement weather such dogs must be kept warm. A veterinarian must be called or an ambulance summoned so that the Dog having the Heart Attack is evacuated to an animal hospital without delay. Until the doctor or ambulance arrives, first aid for resuscitation must be initiated much the same way as it is done in human beings.

Dog Heartattacks Symptoms also occur due to a variety of cardiac and pulmonary disorders. Most of these medical problems can be set right if they are detected soon enough. So if your dog is in the high risk zone of obesity and old age you must look out for the symptoms.

What Are The Benefits Of A Yeast Free Diet?

Let's start with the Problems with yeast! Having yeast in your diet is like have your car exhaust in the atmosphere, it's bad. Yeast can cause all sorts of infections; the infections can occur in the mouth, on the skin, inside of the body, and on the genitals. Too much yeast in your system is what causes these infections and people with weakened immune systems, such as someone with cancer or AIDS, are more prone to acquiring this type of infection. Yeast can also cause day-to-day problems with headaches, digestion, memory, weight, lethargy, and the list keeps going.

Removing yeast from your diet obviously reduces the risk of running into some of the problems listed above. It also helps lose weight, get into shape, remove toxins and chemicals that other foods have released into your body, and can give your more energy. Think about it, yeast is used in the fermentation process beer production, so just imagine what is doing to your body. Yeast removal helps men, women, and children; it can help symptoms of Autism, Crohn's Disease, Fibromyalgia, Arthritis, Thrush, Eczema, and Psoriasis to name a few.

Eating yeast free foods and cooking yeast free does not have to taste bad, nor do you have to remove bread products. There are several recipes out there that are delicious; I have found recipes for meals, desserts, breads, and there are even recipes for yeast free vegan meals. You will lose weight and feel better all around, more energy, less of the day-to-day problems like headaches, memory loss, aches and pains.

Stress relief

To my surprise, while browsing for crochet patterns I came to find out some interesting stuff. Did you know it has been proven that crocheting and knitting are effective to relief stress, anxiety, depression.
It is especially useful with those in pain as well. While doing the repetitive movements and stitches it is known to help the brain, thus relaxing it, which can lower blood pressure, help the heart rate and even boost the immune system! Needlework has helped many, the calming effect this has on the brain is also beneficial to children with ADHD, reducing disruptive behavior!

So get out the needles and work those fingers while relieving stress! Not only will you get an awesome finished project, but maybe even a better you!

Baking Soda- Natural Teeth Whittening

For those who want perfectly white teeth, but are unable to afford a pretty penny at the dentist to have them bleached... why not try the alternative?

While the following method is not guaranteed to work for everyone nor has been approved by the FDA, is harmless and has been successful on many. The key is consistency. If this method is continued until desired results are met, you may have a beautiful smile again!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Baking Soda: The most successful method of them all. Can be done a few different ways. This method has been used since the 18th century as a teeth cleaning agent!

    If you don't mind the salty taste;

  1. Simply wet your tooth brush,
  2. Sprinkle on tooth brush, or dip into a little baking soda in the palm of your hand. Make sure to cover the entire toothbrush.
  3. Brush as you normally would. Be sure to leave in mouth at least 2  minutes.
  4. Rinse.
  5. *Optional: To remove the salty taste from your mouth brush teeth again with preferred tooth paste.
       -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Can't stand the salty taste?;
  1. Wet tooth brush.
  2. Squirt 'pea' size drop of tooth paste on tooth brush.
  3. With 'clean' finger spread the tooth paste on all sides of tooth brush.
  4. Sprinkle on tooth brush, or dip into a little bit of baking soda in the palm of your hand. Be sure to leave in your mouth at least 2 minutes.
  5. Brush as you normally would.
  6. Rinse.
 -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
What exactly does Baking Soda do to your teeth?
  1. Leaves teeth super fresh, smooth and shiny.
  2. Removes plaque build-up.
  3. Removes coffee, wine, smoker stains, etc.
  4. Keeps teeth white and clean.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Warnings:
  1. If your teeth are white, then this method should only be used every 1-2 weeks. Because it can be abrasive to your teeth enamel if used too much. If you are trying to remove stains/yellowness only use 1-3 times a week for the first week. 1-2 times the second week and 1 time the third week, then skip a week. After a month you should have white teeth depending on the amount of stains.
  2. Baking Soda can also dissolve orthodontic glue. DO NOT try this method if you have a permanent retainer or wear braces.
     -----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    "This stuff really works!"

"Wow! I saw results after the first brushing!"

"Your teeth look beautiful! How did you do it?"

     -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Please post your results!

    Colliodal Silver

There is no one in their right mind who will just take a bite from a chunk of silver to get over the flu bug or any other health concern they may have. However, over the years many have come to the knowledge that silver does have its benefits. Not only is silver recognized as a super natural anti-biotic, but it is also very safe to the natural defensive system of the body. Concluded from many studies, silver has the ability to kill over 650 million micro-organisms. Not to mention it has been proven effective in help with:

Acid Reflux [Caused By Intestinal Candida]
    Acne

    Adrenal Exhaustion

    Influenza
    Bacterial and viral infections
    Parvo Virus
    Pelvic Inflammatory Disease [PID]
    Periodontal Gum Disease
    Pneumonia
    Poison Ivy and more.
If silver has so many great qualities then how come you’ve never heard about this terrific anti-biotic? That’s the problem; the FDA doesn’t want you to know. Using silver as medicine has been done for more 100 years. The sad thing is, the FDA banned it in 1983. However, recently its uses have been ‘newly’ found and many companies are selling this stuff for big bucks! You can go to any health food store and purchase 8 ounces of Colloidal Silver for at least $20. When you are sick and need to take 4oz, 4-6 times, 8oz. is not nearly enough; especially at those prices! Then why not just make your own? It’s simple and only cost $50-$60 for the supplies. The price of supplies may be high. However how much does an average bottle of prescription antibiotics from your local Pharmacy cost? You would be making a very smart investment, it’s your life we are dealing with here! The best part, you can make about 1,000 22oz batches of Colloidal Silver, perhaps even more depending upon your silver.
Step-By-Step Guide to making your own Colloidal Silver Generator
    Materials:
    -pure distilled water
-2 silver 1 troy ounce silver bars.
    -1 wooden stick
    -1 rubber band
-2 pieces of electrical wire with metal alligator clips on one end and connecters for the ‘+’ and ‘-‘ charge at the other end.
-3 new high quality 9 volt batteries
-2 copper (non-metal) clips with loops
    -salt
-two one foot pieces of electrical wire
-connectors for the ‘+’ and ‘-‘ charges on batteries.
-1 glass jar with porcelain inside lined lid.
-Small shoe box to hold your supplies.
    Introductions:
Take 2 of the 3 batteries. Place them vertically side by side so that the opposite charges are closest.
Use the masking tape, taping them together. Take the rubber band and tie it horizontally around the two batteries. This will keep them from falling apart. Then, with your third battery upside down, connect it positive to negative and negative to positive onto the right charge of the left battery and on the left charge of the right battery. It should snap in place. If not, you do not have your two bottom batteries connected properly.

Your batteries should connect like the image to the left; small to big, big to small.

Connect each electrical wire to each end of the batteries.

Next, it is time to prepare your 2 silver bars, making sure they are clean; free from rust. Take the two copper clips with loops on top and clip them onto your silver. You could also use 2 copper plates about 1cm x 1.4 cm that allows a screw to tighten them together, with the silver in the  middle.  Make sure you have a metal loop on top; this loop needs to be in between the two
copper plates with a small rubber washer. If you do not have this metal in between you will not have any charge; which will not activate the silver. Do the same for each bar of silver.
Now that the silver is ready, take your alligator clips (connected to the batteries), clipping each clip onto the metal loop on top of the silver. Slide the silver through the loops onto the wooden stick. Twist a bolt on each end of the stick so that the silver does not slide off the stick.

When choosing a jar for your colloidal silver please remember to have a porcelain lined lid or your solution will be no good. No metal what-so-ever can touch your solution. If you have metal fillings in your teeth you must drink the Colloidal Silver through a straw on the opposite side of your mouth. You must not even mix the solution with metal utensils. You must keep that in mind.

Your finished generator should look something like this:

    ____________________________
    Making the Colloidal Silver
Fill your glass jar with water about 1- 2 inches from the top. Add about 20 grains of salt, no more, no less. From experience; if your solution has too much or too little salt it will not work. Let the water (with salt added) sit for 5 min to dissolve. Then twist on the lid and shake to stir the salt through the water.

Place the wood stick with silver on top of the jar so that the silver it sitting in the water. Have the silver bars spaced out about 2 cm. Let sit for 5 min. Make sure your battery is properly connect to the bottom two batteries. This third battery is what charges the other two. Resulting in electric charge running through the positive wire causing the silver bar to smoke in the water. Please Note: If you see particles or chunks of silver going into you solution your either 1) not switching the alligator clips every 3 min or 2) your batteries are too strong. If your batteries are two strong try switching every 1-2 min. You Colloidal Silver isn’t any good if it contains silver chunks. You want very fine particles. That is what the smoke you should see come off of your silver into the water.

After 5 minutes, switch the alligator clips from one silver bar to the other. Make sure not to let the clips touch, doing so will over heat your batteries, especially the top one. Let sit for 3 min. Switch. Let sit for 3 min. Switch. Repeating this step until 30 – 60 min. have passed; depending on how strong you want (or need) your Colloidal Silver to be.

When finished disconnect top battery from two bottom batteries. Remove alligator clips from silver. Remove silver from wooden stick and dry. Place supplies in your shoe box for next time.
Once your solution is completed, you will have a clear foggy, tasteless, powerful antibiotic.  Store in a dark place, light will make the solution become weak. The longer your solution sits the weaker it becomes. It is recommended not to make gallons and gallons at a time but only one batch at a time to experience the full effect of the Colloidal Silver.
Please do further study on the benefits and dangers of Colloidal Silver. The information outlines in this tract are for educational purposes only.
F.O.Y. is not responsible for any problems or possible side effects that may arrise from using Colloidal Silver. Use at your own risk!
